Welcome to Milligan Brand
"Fellow Trappers, The Time Is Now! Every 30 years since 1830 the fur market booms. This is caused by several factors, most notably a weak US Dollar that makes for cheap prices for the European and Asian Markets. Also the fashion industry is reaccepting fur as a beautiful, trendy natural resource.
"The tip of the fur boom iceberg showed it's head last year, with bobcat hitting a high of 1,100.00, plus, good gains on coon, fox and coyote. I caught the boom of the late "70's" thru the mid coon, fox and coyote. I caught the boom of the late "70's" thru the mid "80's". Quit my job, went longlining and never looked back. In fact it was estimated that 50,000 long liners worked in our country coast to coat.
"Even with the increases in fuel, there will be money to be made, adventures to be had and lives to be lived. Gear UP! The time is NOW!
The Milligan Brand Logo Story
I'm often asked about the photo we use in our logo, so I'd like to take a moment to tell the story behind the photo (this is the original logo). The photo was taken in 1983 after my skinners and I spent 7 hours hanging the fur (on a rented barn). The total catch represented 61 trapping days in three states - Kansas, Texas, and New Mexico. there are over 500 pelts of coyote, fox, bobcat, and coon. Each pelt is fully primed and professionally handled. All of these animals were taken in traps (80%) and snares (20%) that I personally set and tended while working alone. I also want you to know that all my furbearers are taken with the same Milligan brand Lures, baits and urines that I offered you in the catalog.
"In the thirty years that I've been selling trapping lures, I've always given my customers that mud-on-the-boots benefit of my experience. After I formulate a lure I shed my lab coat for flannel and camos. I then seek out ideal laboratory conditions: blowing snow, driving rain, bitter cold, hell and high water. I'm fortunate to be able to spend my falls and winters as an outfitter and a commercial fur trapper.
"I'm proud of what I am, and the products I make for your trapline and hunts. those of you who have followed my trapping career now I'm from Pennsylvania and have worked my way west, via seven years in Kansas, to settle here in the Rockies of New Mexico, for the past 26 seasons.
"Through these years of commercial longlining, I've piled up some catches that border on the unbelievable to the average trapper. I don't mean this as a boast but merely a fact. Another fact I want you to know is this: Whenever I need any lure, bait, urine, or any supply item for my trapline or hunts, I go to the mailroom and take it from the same shelves your order will be filled from. And that my friends is the bottom line.
